White Flame Bowl

For today's project, I've got a beautiful piece of Box Elder Burl. I didn't know exactly how spectacular it would be until I put a finish on it. The figure makes it look like there are white flames coming up the side. This bowl proved to be challenging to hollow out. I tried several different bowl gouges, both of which were freshly sharpened, but they just skated off the wood. Maybe it was my inexperience, but I wasn't getting anywhere so I decided to switch over to the carbides. I was able to use the square carbide to get the depth and then the round carbide cutter to blend the sides and bottom. The negative rake carbide was crucial in getting a clean finish on the resin. Don't tell the other bowls, but this just might be one of my favorite bowls so far!

I hope you enjoyed this video and please let me know if you have any project that you'd like to see me do.
