4 Quick and Easy Projects You Can Make as Holiday Gifts!
Today's project is actually 4 different projects which are great Christmas gifts for your friends and family! All of these projects are great for those pieces of scrap wood that I know you have laying around the shop.
Shoe Horn: This is a great little kit that will make it easy to put on those tight shoe and will actually prolong the life of your shoes. At least from Penn State, it only comes in brass. I'm sure you could find this in a different finish from another supplier. I used a scrap piece of 2" x 2" x about 7" piece of walnut. You are only limited by your imagination for what shape you want to make for the handle.
Letter Opener: Tired of getting paper cuts when you open mail? This will make a great gift for yourself or someone else. For this one, I chose to go with a resin blank that I made a few months ago. Pictures don't do it justice. It's translucent and has white swirls that you can see when you hold it up to the light. To hide the brass tube, I painted it with a sharpie. This was my first time doing this and it worked out great!
Brass Hammer: A lot of people may argue that this is not a great gift and to them I say....get better friends. ha ha I used a piece of scrap walnut and went with a shape that seemed to be comfortable in the hand. To give it a little more pizzazz I decided to put a few grooves in and use the wire to burn in the lines.
Bottle Stopper: I'm sure you have friends that are wine drinkers and if not, it makes a great bottle stopper for olive oil. The kit that I bought from Penn State came with several blanks. I chose to use a piece of marble wood. To give it a little extra something, I decided to add a coin that I brought back from Dubai to the top of the bottle stopper.
