The Pink Power Bowl

Wow this was an amazing and fun project to make. I know that I say that a lot, but I really really mean it this....and probably the next time too. Ha Ha The Box Elder Burl is a beautiful wood with natural pink tones. This piece had an inclusion that I cleaned out. It was a little on the short side at 1 7/8" tall. I decided that it needed a little bit more height and some resin would do the trick, but what color resin. I had so many colors to choose and I wanted something that would work with the natural colors in the wood. I had some blue....nah, brown...close, red....a little strong, fluorescent pink....yeah that's perfect. To add a little panache, I wanted to add some white swirls. I used a waste block to not use so much resin. When I took it out of the pressure pot, I was so happy to see that the tape held and didn't leak.

Outside of a few hiccups, the bowl turned out really well. I finished it with Ack's Polishing Paste. The finish on it is so nice and doesn't need any additional products. I hope you really enjoy this project and you get out in the workshop and make some sawdust!
